Pætur Jákupsson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pætur Jákupsson was Løgmaður of the Faroe Islands from 1588 to 1601 .

Pætur came from Suðuroy , where he was the tenant of Gjørðagarður in Porkeri . He also had land in Froðba , and most of all he was the tenant of the famous Kirkjubøargarður royal farm in Kirkjubøur . He was the last Faroese owner of the valuable Kongsbók , the original of the sheep letter from 1298. The book then reached Sweden in an unclear way and was ceremoniously returned to the Faroe Islands in 1989. In addition to the sheep letter, it also contains a copy of the Norwegian Gulatingslóg and other documents. Obviously, the book was passed on from Løgmaður to Løgmaður since Sjúrður and formed their basis for action.
