Póvoa de São Miguel is a place and a municipality ( Freguesia ) in Portugal in the district ( Concelho ) of Moura , with an area of 187.1 km² and 888 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). This corresponds to a population density of 4.7 inhabitants / km².
history
Traces of human settlement in the area range from the Paleolithic , Neolithic , Copper Age and Iron Age , to its time as a place in the Roman province of Lusitania and the Arab dominion of al-Andalus .
The place known today was founded in the 14th century. Until March 11, 1988 the place was called Póvoa de São Miguel, often just called Póvoa.
Culture and sights
Some antas and other archaeological sites can be visited. Among the numerous monuments are also sacred buildings , two cemeteries, a water mill, etc. a. The now closed thermal springs in the community are also protected.
