history

The earliest place name appeared in 1182/83 "Pucinhouen", 1184 "Buizchouen", around 1200 the names "Pucinchoven, Puizinchoven, Puizenchoven", and in the following period "Peutzchoven, Paeuzchof, Peutzkofen" and 1404 "Päutzkofen". The naming is obviously based on a personal name. Puzzo, Poto or Puto is the abbreviation from the presumed full name “Poterich, Pütterich”, which means “to command” in Old High German.

In the early 13th century, a family called Peutzchoven / Paitzkofen appeared in the traditions of the Niederalteich and Metten monasteries. Until 1870 the official spelling was Peitzkofen . After that, the owners of the seat , first designated as Hofmark in 1495, changed hands , which came to Passau's mayor Franz Kolb at the beginning of the 15th century and after him belonged to the Trenbach family from the neighboring Hofmark Schambach for over a hundred years . From around 1637 the Hundt von Lauterbach family appeared as owners. Soon afterwards the mayor of Straubing Kaspar Furthner bought the property before the monastery of St. Emmeram acquired the closed Hofmark in 1699 . In the year of conscription in 1752, Paitzkofen had twenty properties.

The monastery of Sankt Emmeram and its monastery area fell to the newly founded Principality of Regensburg under the prince Carl Theodor von Dalberg in 1802/03 . The St. Emmeram'sche Provoste Paitzkofen passed into the possession of the Kurerzkanzler and formed a separate lower court district even after the secularization in Bavaria . It was only with the acquisition of the Principality of Regensburg by the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1810 that the spiritual rule over Paitzkofen ended, which was now subordinated to the Deggendorf Regional Court . This meant that all judicial, police, administrative and financial matters of the place were now handled from Deggendorf .
