Pietro Palazzini

Pietro Cardinal Palazzini (born May 19, 1912 in Piobbico , Province of Pesaro and Urbino , Italy , † October 11, 2000 in Rome ) was a Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Pietro Palazzini received his philosophical and theological training in Fano and Rome. He received on 6 December 1934, the sacrament of Holy Orders and long then worked for seven years as chancellor of the seminary of Cagli . He performed the same task from 1942 to 1945 at the Pontifical Roman Seminary in Rome and from 1945 to 1949 at the Papal Athenaeum Sant'Apollinare. From 1945 to 1954 he worked as a lecturer at various universities in Rome. In 1956 Pope Pius XII appointed him . as Undersecretary of the Congregation for Consecrated Life , in 1958 Pope John XXIII appointed him . as secretary of the Congregation for Rites .

Pope John XXIII appointed Pietro Palazzini titular Archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia in 1962 and consecrated him as a bishop on September 21 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops of the Curia, Francesco Carpino and Pietro Parente . Pietro Palazzini took part in the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 . Pope Paul VI appointed him secretary of the Cardinals Commission for the Pontifical Shrines of Pompeii and Loreto in 1969 and accepted him on March 5, 1973 as a cardinal deacon with the titular deaconry San Pier Damiani ai Monti di San Paolo in the cardinals college. In 1974 he changed his title Diakonie and took San Girolamo della Carita , in 1983 he was cardinal priest of this pro hac vice to title Church Church collected. Pope John Paul II. Appointed Pietro Cardinal Palazzini 1980 Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints .

In 1983 he was honored by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations for his efforts to save Jewish people during the Second World War . In 1988 he resigned from all management positions due to illness.

Pietro Palazzini died on October 11, 2000 in Rome and was buried in the Campo Verano cemetery there.
