Paranormal Activity 2 is an American horror film produced in 2010 under the direction of Tod Williams and written by Michael R. Perry . It is the sequel to the 2007 film Paranormal Activity and was released in cinemas in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada on October 22, 2010. The film was released in Germany on November 4, 2010. Even if the film is a sequel, it is partly a prequel to the first part.

action

The film opens with a home video recording of Katie's sister Kristi Rey bringing her newborn son Hunter home from the hospital. This is in the same area as Katie's and Micah's house. Through a montage of different recordings, the viewer experiences the first months of the boy's life and gets to know Kristi's husband Dan, his daughter Ali from a previous marriage, the Mexican and spiritually receptive housekeeper Martine and Abby, the shepherdess. The upcoming events will happen, according to a text overlay, 60 days before Micah's death, which explains to the viewer why he and Katie appear in the film. After an apparent break-in that stole nothing but a necklace that Katie once made for Kristi, Dan has cameras installed in the garden, Hunter's baby room, kitchen, stairwell, living room and front door.

The following night, activities begin when the pool lights go out in the middle of the night. The pool cleaning machine is found repeatedly on the edge of the pool. In a recording it becomes clear that this moves independently and against all gravity out of the pool. Hunter is disturbed by knocking at night while sleeping. Pans begin to fall off the hook repeatedly and Martine begins to try to rid the house of the bad spirits and let good spirits in due to the first spiritual premonitions. But when Dan sees her doing it, he fires her. Katie and Kristi talk about these particular experiences that they would have had as children (this is mentioned in Paranormal Activity ). Ali begins to investigate the mysterious occurrences and discovers by accident that a human can enter into a contract with a demon in order to attain fame or fortune. In exchange he must give the demon the life of the firstborn son. The young girl also finds out that Hunter is the first male descendant in Kristis and Katie's family for a long time. During a Ouija session with her boyfriend, she realizes that such a demon is asking for Hunter, as a grandmother or great-grandmother of Kristi's bloodline may have made such a pact.

Shortly afterwards, Kristi is sitting alone in the kitchen. Suddenly the doors of all the kitchen cupboards fly open. The violence gets stronger and stronger, so the family dog is attacked and apparently knocked unconscious. While Dan and his daughter drive the dog to the vet, Kristi and her son stay alone in the house. She looks after him for a moment and is then pulled out of the room, over the stairs and into the basement by an invisible force. After over an hour the cellar door suddenly opens by itself and the apparently possessed Kristi comes out.

The next day, Ali is at home alone with Kristi, who doesn't want to get out of bed. When the young girl hears knocking noises, she goes upstairs, only to find Kristi sitting in the baby room with a bite mark on her thigh similar to Katie's. Meanwhile your son screams for some unknown reason. Then Ali goes to her own room because she heard a noise from there. She turns around and sees that Kristi has left her son's room. She immediately goes back to calm her half-brother when Kristi appears in the hallway and orders Ali to stay away from Hunter. The viewer sees Ali sitting on the ground floor crying, waiting for her father to arrive. He says he has to see how his wife is doing and is implored by Ali, who has meanwhile seen the recordings from last night, to watch the recordings of Kristi's attack. Dan follows her requests and immediately calls Martine, who is preparing a cross that will transfer the demon to a blood relative. Dan plans to ban him on Katie so Kristi and Hunter are safe.

He approaches his wife, who is sitting petrified in her bed, and wants to touch her with the cross, but is bitten by her. All lights go out and Dan takes the cross down the stairs to check on the baby and Kristi, but not without telling Ali to stay upstairs. After groping his way to his son in the dark and knocking some things over, Dan finds Hunter sitting in a corner of the basement. He picks up the fallen camera and is surprised by Kristi, who appears behind him. She attacks Dan and knocks the camera out of his hands. However, he manages to press the cross on his wife's chest and thus expel the demon from her body. The basement begins to shake and demonic screams can be heard. Dan lays Kristi in her bed and burns a photo of young Katie. This is later found by Micah.

Three weeks later, Katie visits the family and tells about the events that are now playing out for her. Kristi, who has no memory of what happened three weeks ago, only says that the events stopped with her. Katie drives to her house where she is greeted by Micah and his new handheld camera, as seen in the opening scenes of the previous one. The next scene is the night after Micah is killed by his possessed wife. She goes to her sister's house covered in blood, breaks Dan's neck and throws Kristi against the wall with a fatal handshake. Then she leaves the scene with Hunter in her arms.

In the credits it is mentioned that Ali finds Dan and Kristi murdered on their return from a school trip, while Katie's and Hunter's whereabouts are unknown.
