The Partia për të Bashkimi Drejtat e Njeriut ( Albanian for "Party, Union for Human Rights'"; acronym: PBDNJ ; Greek Κόμμα Ένωσης Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων comma Enosis anthropinon Dikaiomáton ) is a political party in Albania .

Without any particular ideological orientation, the party sees itself as a comparatively liberal representative of the interests of all minorities in Albania. Originally founded by representatives of the Greek minority , the vast majority of its members and voters come from this ethnic group. Accordingly, the Human Rights Party is mainly active in the settlement area of the ethnic Greek minority in the south of the country - in the districts of Delvina , Gjirokastra and Saranda . In some of the predominantly Greek communities, such as Dropull , she was the mayor until 2015 and in Himara until 2011 .

history

The human rights party was founded in 1992 by members of Omonia , an association that represents the political, social and cultural interests of the Greeks. Omonia had won the parliamentary elections in March 1991 in all five constituencies in which it ran. Because parties with ethnic orientation were subsequently banned, the human rights party was founded, with no reference to its Greek character in its statute. As a result of the Albanian constitution , which came into force in 1998 , the ban on the establishment of parties on an ethnic basis has largely been lifted.

Since 1997, the Human Rights Party has mostly been closely associated with the Albanian Socialists . In the last four parliamentary elections , the PBDNJ always ran in an electoral alliance with them; and from 1997 to 2005 she was represented in the socialist-led coalition governments. Since 2005, the PBDNJ has had a minister in the Democratic- led coalition government, but then decided to move back to the socialist camp before the 2009 elections. In the June election, the Human Rights Party was only able to win one seat in parliament, which was taken by party chairman Vangjel Dule . Because the socialists are boycotting parliament for alleged election fraud, Dule was the only member of the opposition to be present at the opening of parliament and the swearing-in of the government.

In the local elections in 2015 , she could not win anywhere in the new, larger municipalities. Dropull went to the Democratic Party , Himara to the Socialists and in Finiq, as the third community with a large Greek population, won the Ethnic Greek Minority for the Future (MEGA), a new Greek party. Pustec went to the Macedonian Alliance for European Integration , another new minority party.

In the 2017 general election , Dule ran for the Democratic Party and was narrowly elected. The party Association for Human Rights did not run in this election.
