Partido Milénio Democrático
The Partido Milénio Democrático PMD ( Democratic Millennium Party , English : Millennium Democratic Party , Tetum : Partidu Milenium Demokratiku ) is a party in East Timor that was founded in early July 2004 by former members of the Partido Social Democrata PSD . Party chairman is Hermenegildo Kupa Lopes .
One goal of the PMD is better equality for women in Timorese society. This should also be better enforced in the school system. At least 35% of the PMD's candidates for elections should be women, the statutory quota for women is only 25%.
history
For the presidential election campaign in 2007 , the PMD nominated the former bishop of Dili Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo in February , but when he did not take office it supported the previous prime minister, José Ramos-Horta . Ramos-Horta won the election.
In the 2007 election for parliament , the PMD announced that it would support the previous President Xanana Gusmão as a candidate for prime minister. In the elections on June 30, the PMD received only 2,878 votes, which corresponded to 0.69% of the valid votes and thus clearly failed because of the new three percent hurdle. It found the greatest support in what was then the Lautém district , where it received 569 votes (2.10%).
In July 2007, the PMD joined with five other parties that had also failed in the parliamentary elections at the three percent hurdle to form the Liga Democrática Progressiva LDP . The LDP is intended to serve as a political platform outside parliament for parties that are ideologically and in terms of their program very different . Hermenegildo Lopes became the spokesman for the LDP.
In the parliamentary elections in 2012 , the PMD and the Partido Republika Nacional Timor Leste (PARENTIL) ran in a joint electoral list called Bloco Proclamador ( Block of Heralds , tetum Bloku Proklamador ). The Bloco Proclamador failed with only 3,125 votes (0.66%) at the three percent hurdle. The best result he achieved in the Aileu district with 2.43% of the vote.
The PMD has been a member of the Bloku Unidade Popular (BUP) party alliance since July 30, 2015 . It is an electoral alliance of now three parties that failed in the parliamentary elections in 2012 due to the three percent hurdle and entered the parliamentary elections in 2017 with a joint list. In the elections on July 21, 2017, the BUP finally received 0.88% and failed to pass the four percent hurdle. Then the BUP joined the Fórum Demokrátiku Nasionál (FDN).
