The Partyja BNF ( Belarusian Партыя БНФ , German  Party (der) BNF , Russian Партия БНФ ) is a liberal-conservative political party in Belarus .

history

Belarusian independence movement

The white-red-white flag used by Partyja BNF

The party was founded in 1988 during Mikhail Gorbachev's reform policy ( glasnost and perestroika ) in the Belarusian Soviet Republic as Belaruski Narodny Front "Adradzenne" (BNF; German  Belarusian National Front "Renewal" ; English Belaruski Narodny Front "Revival" ). At first she pursued a policy that was decidedly critical of Russia and campaigned for a renaissance of the Belarusian language and culture , which had been troubled by the dominance of the Russian language . In addition, the party campaigned in the early days to come to terms with the crimes of Stalinism in Belarus. For example, the processing of the NKVD massacre in Kurapaty was largely driven by representatives of the Belarusian Popular Front. Your deputies in the Belarusian parliament achieved the reintroduction of the pre-Soviet national symbols ( white-red-white flag and Pahonja coat of arms ).

The party in the Lukashenka regime

While the party had a decisive influence on events in Belarus in the period immediately before and during the dissolution of the Soviet Union , it quickly lost its attractiveness and importance after Belarus gained independence. After the election victory of the pro-Russian presidential candidate Alyaksandr Lukashenka in 1994, the party became even more on the defensive. Since the now authoritarian regime of Belarus restricted the use of the terms “Belarusian” and “national” or “people” in party names, the party has officially been called Partyja BNF .

In 1999 some of the members split off and founded the Kanserwatyuna-Chryszijanskaja Partyja - BNF ( German  Conservative Christian Party - BNF ). Another conservative organization is the United Citizens' Party of Belarus . The parliamentary elections in Belarus in 2012 were boycotted by the BNF together with the United Citizens' Party. BNF took part in the 2016 parliamentary elections and nominated around 50 candidates. BNF is expected to participate in the local elections in 2018.
