George Francis Patrick "Pat" Flaherty (born January 6, 1926 in Glendale , California , † April 9, 2002 in Oxnard , California) was an American racing driver .
Career
Flaherty began his motorsport career with smaller races in his Californian homeland, before he started in 18 races for the AAA / USAC National Series with interruptions between 1949 and 1963, of which he won three. His most successful year was 1956 , in which he won next to the Indianapolis 500 1956 also the race in Milwaukee and took second place in the championship standings.
In 1950 he started for the first time at the Indianapolis 500 and finished in 10th place. Quarrels with the American motorsport association AAA led to his being banned from racing for two years. 1953-1956 he was back at the start in Indianapolis. A serious accident in Springfield put him on hold again for two years; At the end of the 1950s, he returned to the racetrack. His last Indianapolis race was in 1959, when he crashed into the wall in fourth place.
In 1961, Flaherty ended his motorsport career and ran an inn in Chicago . He died in 2002 at the age of 76.
