Patrick Cargill

Patrick Cargill (born June 3, 1918 in London , England , † May 23, 1996 in Richmond, London ) was a British actor .

Life

Cargill was enrolled by his parents at the Royal Military College , Sandhurst , where he was to be trained as an officer. In 1930 he left college in pursuit of an acting career. During the Second World War he served in the British Army. In the 1950s he played in various productions in London's West End and also had minor roles in feature films such as Around the World in 80 Days . 1961 to 1962 he played one of the leading roles in the television series Top Secret , of which 26 episodes were created. He starred in two films in the Carry-on… series and in Richard Lester's Beatles film Hi-Hi-Hilfe! and had guest roles in the series With Umbrella, Charm and Melone , The Man with the Suitcase and Number 6 .

In 1967 he starred alongside Marlon Brando and Sophia Loren in Charles Chaplin's last feature film, The Countess of Hong Kong . From the same year he played the lead role in the series Father Dear Father about a single parent crime writer who was overwhelmed with his two daughters. By 1973, 52 episodes and one film based on the series had been made; 1978 14 episodes emerged of in Australia playing series offshoot Father, Dear Father in Australia . Other roles he played, among others, in Bud Yorkins Inspector Clouseau alongside Alan Arkin and in the Marty Feldman - Comedy porridge makes you sexy .

Cargill wrote the play Ring for Catty together with Jack Searle , which was adapted in 1959 under the title 41 Grad Liebe as the second film in the carry-on… film series. His last television role was in 1990 as Neville Chamberlain in the controversial sitcom Heil Honey I'm Home! that was canceled after just one episode.
