Patrick Follmann

Patrick Follmann (born April 20, 1989 in Regensburg ) is a German sailor in the 470 class .

Patrick Follmann is a sailing professional. He has a degree in mathematics. Follmann starts for the German Touring Yacht Club . As a junior he already achieved some success as a helmsman. In 2002 he became German Puppy Champion in Optimist. At the European Championships in 2005 he finished fourth and at the 2007 World Championships seventh.

Follmann had his first international appearances with the men at the European Championships in 2006 in Balatonfüred , where he was 65th with his bowman Nico Lutz . At the European Championships in 2008, the duo started in the 49er class in Palma and came in 43rd place. He then switched to lasers and was 93rd and 112th at the World Championships in Nova Scotia in 2009 and in 2010 off Hayling Island. Follmann won the 2010 German Junior Champion title in the Laser Standard at the Young European Sailings. For the following season he changed to the position of the bow and came back to the 470 class, Ferdinand Gerz became Follmann's new helmsman. The results also improved quickly. At the European Championships 2011 in Helsinki Gerz / Follmann were 16th, at the World Championships in Perth 15th, 2012 they were initially 12th of the World Championships in Barcelona . In Kiel they won the World Cup . At the European Championships in Largs , Follmann suffered a serious thumb injury and the duo had to stop the competition prematurely. The 2012 Summer Olympics in London were the highlight of the season and career . Despite the injury in the run-up, they only narrowly missed the medal race and ended up 13th.

In 2011 Gerz / Follmann won the national title in the 470 class.
