Paul Biesemann (born August 19, 1896 in Rotterdam , † February 9, 1943 in Düsseldorf - Kaiserswerth ) was a German-Dutch landscape , marine , still life - and portrait painter and etcher .

Life

The son of Theodor Biesemann and Elisabeth, née Kleinmann, from Rotterdam first attended the drawing school in Rotterdam and then from 1919 to 1923 the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There were Wilhelm Döringer , Eduard von Gebhardt , Ludwig Heupel-Siegen , Ludwig Keller and Heinrich Nauen his teachers. While the former represented the traditional painting of the Düsseldorf School , the latter shaped him in the sense of Rhenish Expressionism . From 1923 Biesemann belonged to the artists' association Das Junge Rheinland (from 1928 Rheinische Sezession ).

Biesemann lived and worked in Rees , Kalkar and Düsseldorf-Kaiserswerth. Like the painters Piet Leysing , Heinz Scholten (1894–1967) and Bernd Schulte , who have been friends with him since his student days and who undertook study trips with him to East Friesland, the Taunus, the Eifel and the Middle Rhine in 1921/1922, he is considered to be " Niederrheinmaler ". He is represented in the collection of the city of Rees in the Koenraad Bosman Museum in Rees.
