Paul Hartenstein

Paul Emil Hartenstein (born June 8, 1878 in Gesau near Glauchau ; † unknown) was a German actor , director and theater director .

Life

Hartenstein began his stage career in 1895. Without exception, his early stage stations included cities in the German provinces, including Liegnitz , Plauen , Bremen , Stettin and Krefeld . On August 23, 1902, he cast off from Hamburg and crossed the Atlantic with the 'Graf Waldersee' (destination New York) to play theater in Philadelphia . Back in Germany, he managed to switch from comedian to character comedian in his hometown of Chemnitz in the 1905/06 season. His best-known theater roles in those early years were Giesecke in Im Weisse Rössl , Striese in Der Raub der Sabinerinnen , Babbs in Charley's Aunt , Birkenstock in Der Hypochonder , Prell in Flachsmann as an educator and Lutz in Alt-Heidelberg .

Before the First World War , Hartenstein founded his own stage company, the Hartenstein Society, with which he toured Germany (guest appearances in Leipzig , Munich , Hamburg , Breslau , Dresden , Chemnitz, Elberfeld , Bremen, Lübeck , Halle , Stettin, Posen, among others and Dortmund ) went and directed the German City Theater in Wilna, Russia . At that time he also directed.

With film since 1919, Hartenstein initially worked as a dramaturge for Cela-Film GmbH and mainly took on leading roles in their productions. The compact actor played very different types; pompous and pompous and self-important characters as well as imposing and comical figures, dignitaries and fathers, as well as uniform, tuxedo and chapeau claque wearers. He was also active as a film author and produced some of his works in his own production ('Hartmann-Treu-Film'). Almost all of his films are now lost, the film titles forgotten. Various of his short and long films (e.g. The Gas Mask , Thick Milk and Love , The Cholera Rabbit ) are currently not even possible to date. As early as 1921, Hartenstein disappeared from the public eye.

Paul Hartenstein was married to the actress Trude Gerecke .
