Paul Kollmann

Paul Kollmann (born March 10, 1842 in Lübeck , † January 9, 1915 in Dresden ) was a German statistician and from 1872 head of the Statistical Bureau in Oldenburg (Oldb) .

Life

Kollmann was the son of the Lübeck magistrate Johannes Kollmann (1804–1878) and Charlotte Amalie Luise Mathilde born. von Borries (1819-1883). He attended the Katharineum from 1847 to 1859 and was then employed by the city post office in Lübeck until 1864. From 1865 he studied economics and statistics in Jena and received his doctorate in 1867. He then went on a one-year trip through France and Belgium and worked at times in the statistical office in Brussels . After his return to Germany he was employed as a secretary at the Statistical Bureau of the Thuringian States in Jena from spring 1869 to spring 1871 . He then moved to the Statistical Bureau of the Tax Deputation in Hamburg, from where he applied for the vacant position on the board of the Statistical Bureau in Oldenburg. The position could start on October 1, 1872. His predecessor in this office was Karl Becker . Kollmann worked in this role for thirty years, most recently as a Grand Ducal Oldenburg Government Councilor .

Kollmann wrote numerous statistical writings on the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, including statistical descriptions of the economic development of Oldenburg from the years 1878 and 1893, which are considered to be his most important publications. From 1872 to 1905 he published the statistical news about the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg . He was involved in the establishment of the Bodencredit-Anstalt in Oldenburg in 1893 with an expert opinion. The Faculty of Economics at the University of Tübingen awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1898 for his work . He retired on April 1, 1903 and later moved to Dresden. There he wrote several studies on the importance of statistics and on various areas of life in Saxony .

Kollmann was married to Magdalena Julie Auguste geb. from Döring.
