Paul L. Smith

Paul L. Smith (born February 5, 1939 in Everett , Massachusetts , † April 25, 2012 in Ra'anana , Israel ) was an American actor . He became known through various spaghetti westerns and comedies. Mostly he took on roles that matched his stocky build, as well as those as villains.

Life

Smith had his first film role as a Jewish prisoner in Otto Preminger's Exodus (1960). In 1967, after filming for Exodus in Israel , Smith returned there as a volunteer in the Six Day War . He has appeared in five films in Israel. In 1973 he moved to Italy with his wife, Eve, whom he had met in Israel . Here he turned to Antonio Cantafora , which the stage name Michael Coby gave several Terence Hill & Bud Spencer - plagiarism . He also had a small supporting role in the mini-series Moses with Burt Lancaster .

In 1977 he moved to Hollywood and filmed 12 o'clock at night - Midnight Express . In Hollywood, he took on guest roles on series such as CHiPs , Emergency Call California and Barney Miller . He flopped in Popeye ; Later he also worked in more famous films, such as Masada with Peter O'Toole , Dune, the desert planet with Kyle MacLachlan , Red Sonja with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maverick with Mel Gibson .

In 2006 he moved back to Israel, where he and his wife took citizenship and the Hebrew names Adam and Aviva Eden .
