politics

After Labor Minister Nicolas Schmit announced in the summer of 2016 that he wanted to switch to the European Court of Auditors , Lenert, who lives in Bad Mondorf , was already considered a promising candidate for his successor alongside Tess Burton , who is considered the favorite . Schmit remained in office until the end of the legislative period. After the 2018 chamber election , Lenert was appointed to the government headed by Xavier Bettel in December of that year , where he was responsible for development cooperation , humanitarian affairs and consumer protection . The appointment sparked criticism because Lenert had not yet made a major contribution within the party and had not run for parliament. Due to the disregard of Burton, the board of the Young Socialists of the district east, from which both politicians come, resigned. Lenert was elected Vice President of her party in January 2019.
