Pawliw ( Ukrainian Павлів ; Russian Павлов Pawlow , Polish Pawłów ) is a village in the north of the Ukrainian Lviv Oblast with about 3800 inhabitants (2001) and an area of 2.8764 km².
The village is the only place in the 28.89 km² district council of the same name in Radechiv Rajon .
Pavliv is located on the banks of the Peresika ( Пересіка ), 8 km southwest of the Radechiv district center and 74 km northeast of the Lviv Oblast center . South-east of the location extending highway N 17 . The Radechiv sugar factory is located in Pavliv .
history
The village, first mentioned in writing in 1400, belonged to the Bełz Voivodeship in the aristocratic republic of Poland until 1772 and then to Austrian Galicia until 1918 .
After the First World War , the village came to the Second Polish Republic and was there until 1934 an independent municipality in the Powiat Radziechów in the Tarnopol Voivodeship . Subsequently, until 1939 the village belonged to the newly created Gmina Chołojów in the same powiat and voivodeship .
During the Second World War , the village was occupied by the Soviet Union from September 1939 to the summer of 1941 and then by Germany until 1944, which incorporated it into the Galicia District in the General Government. After the reconquest by the Red Army, there was a military hospital in the village. Between 1944 and 1991 the place was part of the Ukrainian SSR and in 1991 Pavliv became part of the independent Ukraine.
Personalities
The Polish writer and poet Kornel Ujejski (1823-1897) lived and died in Pawliw. His grave is in the local cemetery.
