The 1960 Pacific hurricane season officially began on May 15, 1960 in the Eastern Pacific Ocean and June 1, 1960 in the Central Pacific. It ended on November 30, 1965. This season was the first in the East Pacific storms were named, previously the storms were just numbered.
Tropical Storm Annette formed south of Mexico on June 8th . It moved west and disbanded on June 12th. The storm never hit land and Annette is not known to have suffered any damage.
Tropical Storm Bonny formed on June 22nd and moved in a northwest direction. The storm then turned north and then west again and then resolved on June 26, south of Baja California .
The remnants of Hurricane Abby , which formed in the Atlantic Ocean, moved to the Eastern Pacific and turned into a hurricane again on July 20. It has now been renamed Celest. The hurricane moved northwest and had its maximum wind speed of 135 km / h there before weakening into a tropical storm and resolving on July 22nd.
Hurricane Diana formed on August 16 and reached hurricane strength on August 17, where it moved northwest. Diana briefly weakened to a tropical storm on August 18th and regained hurricane strength the next day.
Estelle formed on August 29, south-southwest of Guatemala. The storm is moving west-northwest, parallel to the coast of Mexico as a 135 km / h hurricane before becoming extra-tropical on September 9th. The remains of Estelle brought heavy rainfall over southern California with 76.2mm of rainfall in Julian.
Fernanda formed southwest of Guatemala on September 3, moving west-northwest as a Category 1 hurricane before disintegrating southwest of Mexico on September 8.
A tropical cyclone in the eastern Pacific was given the name Gwen. However, the system is not included in the best track data. The reason for this is unknown.
Hyacinth formed as a hurricane on October 21st and circled the Mexican state of Jalisco, where it weakened to a tropical storm before hitting the coast as a tropical depression on October 23rd. The harm, if any, to hyacinth is unknown.
