Peggy McCay

Margaret Ann "Peggy" McCay (born November 3, 1927 in New York City - † October 7, 2018 ) was an American actress . She gained fame through her role as Caroline Brady in the soap opera Zeit der Sehnsucht , which she played from 1983 to 2016.

Life

Margaret Ann McCay was born in 1927 in New York City, the only daughter of contractor Michael McCay and his wife Catherine. She attended St. Walburga's Convent School and then Barnard College , where she graduated in June 1949. After the death of her father, she and her mother managed the inherited construction company for several years.

After graduating from college, McCay joined a theater company and took acting lessons from Lee Strasberg . She got her first stage role in Uncle Vanya on the side of Franchot Tone . In 1957, both actors were seen in their old roles in a film version of the play. McCay received an Obie Award for Best Actress for her role .

McCay got her first major television role in 1951 as Vanessa Dale in the soap opera Love of Life . She was part of the regular cast of the series until 1955. This was followed by guest appearances on television series such as Perry Mason , Maverick , At the foot of the blue mountains and the Andy Griffith Show . In 1962 she played her second film role in Lad, A Dog .

In the 1970s and 1980s, McCay had a recurring role as Marion Hume on the television series Lou Grant . In February 1983 she first appeared in her best-known role as Caroline Brady in the soap opera Zeit der Sehnsucht . She has appeared on the series on a regular basis since 1985 and was part of the cast until 2016. McCay's other appearances on television series included a guest appearance in The Cases of Rosie O'Neill , for which she received the 1991 Primetime Emmy Award for Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

Peggy McCay died on October 7, 2018 at the age of 90.
