Career
In the club
In his youth, the midfielder, wrongly called Vítor Pelé, kicked at SC Salgueiros in Portugal. After a financial crisis that drove the SC close to the brink of ruin, he left the club and joined Benfica Lisbon . For the record champions he only played half a year before Vitória Guimarães poached him. After another six months, he made his debut for the senior team in the Liga de Honra , Portugal's second division. He became a regular on his team when he was just 18 years old and even made it to the SuperLiga . For the 2007/08 season he was recruited from the traditional Italian club Inter Milan and from then on he played for the current champions. He made his debut for Inter in a friendly against FC Barcelona , which he and his team lost 5-0.
For the 2008/09 season he moved to FC Porto , where he was part of the contract for the transfer of Ricardo Quaresma to Inter Milan . He then played on loan at Portsmouth FC and Real Valladolid .
At the beginning of the 2010/11 season, Pelé played in Turkey for Eskisehirspor. The transfer fee was 420,000 euros. FC Porto retained 30% of the transfer rights.
In the summer of 2013, Pelé signed a one-year contract with the Greek first division club Ergotelis . The Greek record champions Olympiacos Piraeus noticed him because of his good performance . Pelé moved to the club from Piraeus during the winter break of the 2013/14 season. He signed a three and a half year contract. After he was rarely used, he was loaned to league rivals Levadiakos in January 2015 . In the summer of 2015, Pelé finally moved to the Cypriot first division club Anorthosis Famagusta .
In the national team
Towards the end of the 2006/07 season he was appointed to the squad of the U-20 national team for the annual youth tournament held in Toulon . After strong performances in this competition, he was also invited to the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada . There he completed three missions, but could not avert the elimination of his team in the group stage.
