action

The happily married bank clerk Riley North is leaving a Los Angeles fair with her husband Chris and daughter Carly when Chris and Carly are shot by gangsters from a moving car. Detectives Carmichael and Beltran determine that the murders were ordered by crime boss and drug cartel boss Diego Garcia because Chris intended a dodgy financial deal. Riley clearly identifies the three vehicle occupants to the police, whereupon they are charged in court. Since the lawyer of the three defendants visits Riley's home and discovers psychotropic drugs, he can question Riley's credibility in court, so that the judge dismisses the suit and the three gangsters are released. When Riley is about to be transferred to psychiatric treatment for negligence, she escapes from the ambulance and goes into hiding.

The action starts again years later. When, on the fifth anniversary of the murder of Riley's family, the three gangsters, their attorney at the time and the judge are murdered one after the other, the FBI, represented by Agent Lisa Inman, and the police become aware of Riley, who is obviously the murderer looking for revenge. Since going into hiding, she has trained worldwide in hand-to-hand combat techniques and as a professional shooter. Beltran installs a large manhunt for her, so that she quickly becomes known on television. In her quest for revenge and to get to Garcia, Riley shoots numerous gangsters. When Riley has reached Garcia's property, he injures her before they both flee separately from the approaching police.

Riley hides her equipment in a pickup truck, which she has homeless children guarding, on a street in the Skid Row district where there are many homeless people. In the meantime, in the evaluation of crime statistics, the neighborhood, which is usually characterized by high crime, was found to be surprisingly free of crime. Then she begins there alone, later with the participation of Carmichael, and learns, also with the help of the children, of Riley's connection to this place. Carmichael then shoots Inman and now turns out to be a supporter or informant of Garcia at the police. He tells Garcia the location as Riley's hiding place, whereupon the latter arrives there with his armed protectors to seize Riley.

After Garcia arrives on the street in Skid Row, Riley observes the criminals from hiding in a nearby building. Garcia threatens Riley to shoot one of the children if she doesn't surrender. Before Riley goes to Garcia unarmed, she informs the public of what is going on on site with a video message sent live from Inman's cell phone and televised, identifying Garcia and revealing Carmichael as a traitor. Beltran arrives at the scene with a large police force, surprising Garcia and his entourage. Garcia shoots Carmichael as allegedly responsible and flees separately from Riley, who shoots Garcia despite being surrounded by the police and is able to flee again.

Beltran discovers the injured Riley at her family grave. When Beltran visits Riley's bedside in a hospital, he thanks her for her service in killing so many wanted criminals. He secretly gives her a key with which she can open her handcuffs and escape from custody.

criticism

The film service rated the film with two out of five possible stars and rated it as “stylistically and narrative within the scope of the genre”. However, he exaggerates the protagonist "to the dubious redeemer figure" and he sacrifices "realism and credibility of a political agenda that pursues the restoration of a questionable order in a moralizing manner ."

epd Film, on the other hand, rated it with three out of five possible stars. Manfred Riepe judged: "With Jennifer Garner as a surprisingly fitting cast in the main role, Pierre Morel pays homage to the genre of the revenge thriller".
