Peter André (2004)

Peter André (born February 27, 1973 in Harrow , London ; actually Peter James Andréa ) is a British singer of Greek - Cypriot origin.

Life

He grew up in Surfers Paradise , a district of Gold Coast , Australia . He and his brother wrote their first song when he was 13 years old. In the early 1990s he applied to a talent show on television and was offered a recording contract in front of the camera. The second single, Gimme Little Sign , released in late 1992 , an oldie originally sung by Brenton Wood , became the best-selling single by a local artist in that year. Shortly thereafter, the self-titled debut album was released and reached number 27 on the Australian charts. At the same time, he took part in the Australian soap opera Neighbors in 1993 , which also served as a career springboard for other singers such as Kylie Minogue and Natalie Imbruglia .

His international musical career began in 1995 with Mysterious Girl (number 2 in the UK charts). In Germany, in May 1997, he received a gold record for 250,000 units sold in Hamburg . His hit Only One followed in 1996 and reached number 16 on the UK charts. His biggest hit, however, remained Mysterious Girl , which finally climbed to number 1 in the British charts after a new release in 2004 .

Until then, Andrés songs could be classified as pop music , but with his third album Time, he took a new direction. Renowned black music artists such as Montell Jordan , Diane Warren , Coolio and Fugees member Pras Michel helped him with writing, recording and producing . So the peilte label revered almost exclusively by teenagers artist with the resulting R & B - repertoire to a more mature clientele. André himself stated that the change had to do with his artistic development. After it became clear that despite some relatively successful single releases, the expectations of all sides - label, performer, consumer - had been set too high, André withdrew from the music industry.

In 2004, he appeared on the UK reality show I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! where he met Katie Price . The two married on September 10, 2005 in Newbury, Berkshire , after their first child, a boy, had previously been born. In 2007 their second child, a daughter, was born. The couple announced their separation in mid-May 2009 and divorced that same year.

The increase in awareness due to the participation in the reality show and the associated jump to the top of the chart made him get back into business in 2004. He released a number of other albums and singles, which were at least chart entries in Great Britain.

He has been married to Emily MacDonagh since 2012 .
