Peter Conrad

Peter Conrad (born March 19, 1850 in Auw , † May 3, 1914 in Aarau ) was a Swiss politician of the Catholic Conservative Party . He was Councilor of the Canton of Aargau .

biography

Peter Conrad was born into a religious farming family of 15. He was born with only one arm and soon showed great intellectual talent by completing primary and district school in half the time. Like five of his brothers, he wanted to study theology , but this was closed to him because of his infirmity. After attending the monastery school in Einsiedeln and graduating from high school , he studied law at the universities of Heidelberg , Paris and Munich .

Following the state examination as advocate and notary , Conrad opened his own law firm in Auw in 1878 . In 1879 he became the mayor of the community, an office that his father already held. From 1880 to 1885 he was also a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau. In 1882 he took up residence in the district capital Muri and became president of the district court. In 1884 he was elected to the Aargau Constitutional Council and found general recognition for his work. As the first Catholic-Conservative representative, he was elected to the government council in 1885, an office that he would hold for almost 30 years until his death.
