Conversation between Tim Pritlove and Finke about Citizen Science .

Finke taught science , language and cultural theory at Bielefeld University from 1982 and was Gregory Bateson Professor of Cultural Ecology at Witten / Herdecke University in 1996/97 . 2004 awarded him the University of Debrecen , the honorary doctorate .

In 2006, in protest against the consequences of the Bologna reform, he voluntarily resigned from regular service before the retirement age and criticized science for being “complicit” in the reform. He sees an "educational crisis " as part of a profound cultural crisis and advocated Citizen Science as the path to a real knowledge society.

Peter Finke dealt with linguistics , literary studies and cultural theory and addressed the importance of metaphors in science and the relationship between knowledge and belief. He deals with cultural and epistemological aspects of ecological economics and criticizes "the sustainability chatter", referring to the concept of sustainable growth as an oxymoron .

He is a founding member and member of the board of directors of the Association for Ecological Economics and a member of the jury for the Kapp Research Award and is involved, partly in a leading role, in citizen science networks . He is chairman of the advisory board of the Natural Science Association for Bielefeld and the surrounding area and was co-founder and long-term chairman of the umbrella association of Natural Science Associations in Germany, which was founded in 1992 . In 2005, he decided to transform it into a network of natural science associations in Central Europe , as its spokesman Finke is still active today (as of 2013).

In 2005 he founded the Parosphromenus Project , which uses the example of licorice gouramis to fight against the destruction of the jungle in Malaysia and Indonesia . It emerged from a research project of the ECERG ( Evolutionary Cultural Ecology Research Group ) headed by Finke , which dealt with cultural change through economization and globalization based on science and education , politics and everyday culture .
