From 2006 to 2010, a special prize of € 2500 from the Selbach Environment Foundation (Munich) was also announced. The research award of the VÖÖ was originally awarded in cooperation with the Schweisfurth Foundation under the name Schweisfurth Research Award for Ecological Economy from 1998 to 2002 and renamed in 2004.
