Peter Frommhold von Löwis of Menar (born February 9, 1769 in Sackhof , Estonia ; † November 28, 1829 ibid) was a Baltic nobleman , of Scottish descent, from the Löwis of Menar family . He was a Russian major and later an agricultural politician and hook judge .

Life

Peter Frommhold von Löwis of Menar was born as the third son of Reinhold Friedrich von Löwis of Menar (1731–1794) and his wife Dorothea Elisabeth Clapier de Colongue (1744–1799). His brothers were the Russian Lieutenant General Friedrich von Löwis of Menar (1767-1824) and the draftsman and historian Andreas von Löwis of Menar (1777-1839). He served in the Russian army and gained the rank of major. After retiring from the army , he became the landowner of Kandel in 1793 and then inherited Sackhof. He was given the post of hook judge for the Strand-Wierland community . In this capacity, he issued a code of law for the farmers in Kandel between 1801 and 1804 . Here the rural usage rights and municipal jurisdiction were determined. It also included the possibility of acquiring freedom and other administrative implementation provisions. PF Löwis of Menar campaigned for the development of a rural social structure and school system and supported the establishment of a teachers' seminar .

Good Kandel

Kandel (Kandla also Kandle mõis) is an inherited estate and is located near Arensburg . It has existed as Hof Wackerselge in the Wacke since the Middle Ages and was mentioned in 1542. In 1548 the property was expanded considerably and consisted of two villages . From 1542 to 1730 the Estonian Berg family owned the estates and in 1793 it was transferred to PF von Löwis of Menar. At the beginning of the 19th century the family v. Güldenstubbe inherited the estate and in 1919 Ludwig von Güldenstubbe inherited the manor. Since 1909 the Kandel estate belonged to the Kergelhof community and in 1939 it became part of the Kergel community .

Private life

PF von Löwis of Menar married Ottilie Charlotte Wilhelmine von Toll (1774–1804) in 1798 , from this marriage the following children emerged:
