Peter Gross (sociologist)
Peter Gross (born October 3, 1941 in St. Gallenkappel ) is a Swiss sociologist and book author . He became internationally known for coining the term “multi-option society” in his book of the same name.
Life
Peter Gross studied sociology , economics and business administration at the universities of Zurich and Bern . He graduated with a licentiate (lic. Rer. Pol.) And doctorate (Dr. rer. Pol.) From the University of Bern and received his habilitation from the University of Konstanz . This was followed by assistance and lectureships at the universities of Konstanz and Freiburg im Breisgau . From 1972 to 1980 he sat for the SP in the Grand Council of the Canton of Thurgau . From 1979 to 1989 he was professor for sociology and social structure in international comparison at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg . From 1989 until his retirement in 2006 he taught as professor of sociology at the University of St. Gallen (HSG). From 1996 to 1998 he was dean of the economics department.
Gross became internationally known for coining the term “multi-option company”, which is also the title of his main work. Even after his retirement he is active in training and advising public and private institutions. He is a member of various scientific and non-scientific associations and societies, including PEN International, employee of various newspapers and magazines.
Peter Gross is married, has two children and lives in St. Gallen .
