Peter Hanser-Strecker

Carl Peter Hanser-Strecker (born July 14, 1942 in Munich ) is a German music publisher from Schott Music - the second oldest music publisher still in existence in Germany. His mother Marion Hanser geb. Strecker was the daughter of the music publisher Ludwig Strecker .

Childhood and youth

Hanser-Strecker grew up in Mannheim and attended elementary school there. He then spent four years at a humanistic grammar school in Frankfurt am Main and then switched to the likewise humanistic Dilthey grammar school in Wiesbaden, where he graduated from high school in 1961.

Professional background

He began his university studies in music and musicology in Mainz and continued in Munich in the summer semester of 1963 . There he also added an additional law degree. Then from the winter semester 1965 he concentrated in Frankfurt entirely on the law school, which he in July 1968 with the graduation to the Dr. jur. on the subject of the plagiarism in the music finished. His studies complemented a 6-month stay in the USA and a six-month management course at the renowned IMEDE Institute in Lausanne / Switzerland (today IMD International Institute for Management Development ).

Working life

After completing his studies, he joined Schott-Verlag in 1968 at the age of 26 as head of the legal department. In addition, he built up the light music and record department ( WERGO ). In 1974 he was appointed to the management board of the publishing house and took over as chairman in 1983.

In 1976/77 he strengthened the foreign activities of the publishing house by founding subsidiaries in the USA and Japan. These foundations were followed by the founding of Schott Paris in 1988, Schott Madrid in 1991 and Schott Hong Kong (today: Schott China) in 1995.

During his active time at Schott, who was still active, the spatial outsourcing of the warehouse and sales department to Mainz-Hechtsheim (mds - music distribution services), the changeover from engraving with steel stamps to computer notation as well as the internationalization described above, which he also acquired in total systematically promoted twelve smaller music publishers .

Hanser-Strecker is married and has three grown children. Hanser-Strecker and his family live in Wiesbaden .

Honorary positions and mandates

Since 1976, Hanser-Strecker has been on the board of the German Music Publishers' Association , of which he headed its legal committee in 1976. He was president of the DMV from 1997 to 2002 and was then made an honorary member and chairman of the E-Committee from 2002. He has been a member of the GEMA Supervisory Board since July 1, 1979 (since 2003: honorary member). He is also a member of the board of the German Stage Publishers' Association, a founding member of VG Musikedition , and the copyright and publishing law committee of the German Book Trade Association . He is a member of the board of trustees of the Carl Orff Foundation and the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . In 1981 he founded the Paul Strecker Foundation, of which he is now treasurer, and in 1991 the Pro musica viva Maria Strecker Daelen Foundation, of which he is the life chairman.
