Peter Joseph Mallon

Peter Joseph Mallon (born July 3, 1929 in Prince Rupert , BC , Canada , † February 3, 2007 in Regina , Saskatchewan , Canada) was the sixth Archbishop of Regina in Canada.

Life

Mallon attended schools in Terrace, British Columbia, and after his family moved to Vancouver . He entered the of Benedictines guided Seminary "Christ the King Seminary" and studied philosophy and theology at Benedictine College in Mission, British Columbia. Peter Joseph Mallon was ordained a priest on May 27, 1956 at the Holy Rosary Cathedral in Vancouver. He served as a priest, from 1956 to 1982 canon of the Holy Rosary Cathedral.

On November 6, 1989, he was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Nelson in British Columbia by Pope John Paul II, succeeding Wilfrid Emmett Doyle . He was ordained episcopal on February 2 of the following year by the Archbishop of Vancouver , James Francis Carney . Co- consecrators were the former Bishop of Nelson, Wilfrid Emmett Doyle, and the Bishop of Kamloops , Lawrence Sabatini CS .

On June 9, 1995, he was named Archbishop of Regina in Saskatchewan , succeeding Charles Aimé Halpin .

Pope Benedict XVI granted his age-related resignation on March 30, 2005; he was succeeded by Daniel Bohan .

He died of complications from cancer at Pasqua Hospital in Regina and was buried in the Holy Rosary Cathedral in Vancouver.
