Peter Koits
Peter Koits (born May 9, 1941 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1999 to 2015 he was mayor of the Upper Austrian city of Wels .
Life
Peter Koits went to primary school in Ebensee and Ried im Innkreis . He completed an apprenticeship in Linz in 1960 as a wholesaler. He received his doctorate in law in 1970 from the University of Linz and worked as a lawyer for the main team in the Wels-Land district .
Peter Koits is married and has two daughters and a son.
Political career
Since 1979 he has been a member of the municipal council of the city of Wels. From 1983 to 1994 he was City Councilor, from 1994 to 1997 2nd Vice Mayor and from 1997 to 1999 1st Vice Mayor. Since November 22, 1999, he has been the successor to Karl Bregartner (SPÖ) mayor of Wels. Most recently, Peter Koits was re-elected in the second ballot in 2009 with 53.53 percent of the valid votes. Until the end of 2012 he was city party chairman of the SPÖ Wels. He did not run for the mayoral election in 2015. His successor as mayor is Andreas Rabl ( FPÖ ).
In the Austrian Association of Cities he was a member of the main committee, member of the management and chairman of the committee for public relations. For the association of towns he was also a nominee for the Council for Questions of Austrian Integration and Foreign Policy of the National Security Council and a nominee for the Council of European Municipalities and Regions in Strasbourg . He was also a member of the St. Pölten cooperation network of European medium-sized towns and chairman of the supervisory board of E-Werk Wels AG (EWWAG).
Awards
- 2006: Chevallier des Ordre national du Mérite , presented by the French ambassador in Vienna at the time, Pierre Viaux, for his commitment to the Austro-French friendship
- 2007: Brother Straubing gold coin as part of the 35th anniversary of the town twinning between Straubing and Wels
- 2015: Ring of Honor of the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences
- 2015: Elfriede Grünberg Prize
