Peter Mahamudu Msolla (born November 6, 1945 in Iringa ) is a Tanzanian veterinarian , university professor and politician of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), who was Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education between 2006 and 2008 and Minister of Agriculture for a few months in 2006 , Food Security and Cooperatives and most recently Minister for Science, Communication and Technology from 2008 to 2010.

Life

Degree, veterinarian and university lecturer

Msolla, son of Mahamudu Simsindo and Carolyne Mwamsuva Mhufu Msolla, attended Mazombe Primary from 1954 to 1957 , Iringa Middle School between 1958 and 1959 and Kalenga NA Middle School from 1959 to 1961 . He received his secondary education between 1962 and 1965 at the Malangali Secondary School and from 1966 to 1967 at the Mkwawa Secondary School . In 1969 he began an undergraduate degree in veterinary medicine at the University of Nairobi (UON), which he completed in 1972 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM). After his return he became an employee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in 1972 and was initially the official veterinarian for the Sumbawanga district and then between 1973 and 1975 the official veterinarian for the Mbeya region . In 1975 he began postgraduate studies in veterinary medicine at the University of Edinburgh , which he completed in 1976 with a Master of Veterinary Medicine . He then worked as a doctoral student at the University of Glasgow , where he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy ( Ph.D. ) in 1979 .

After his return, Msolla took over a professorship for veterinary medicine at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Morogoro in 1980 and taught there until 2005. Between 1980 and 2005 he was also deputy vice chancellor of the SUA. During this time he became a 1989 Fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (FTWAS) and earned a certificate in biotechnology from Washington State University in 1990 . In 2004 he also became chairman of the board of the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI).

MP and Minister

After finishing teaching at SUA in 2005, Msolla began his political career as a member of the Political Committee of the CCM Revolutionary Party ( Chama Cha Mapinduzi ), to which he has been a member since then, and from 2005 to 2010 as a member of the CCM General Council in the district Kilolo . In 2005 he was elected a member of the National Assembly for the first time as a candidate of the CCM , in which he represented the constituency of Kilolo until 2015 . He also became a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the CCM in 2007 and was a member of both the Regional Council and the Political Committee of the CCM in the Iringa region between 2007 and 2012 .

In 2006, Msolla took over the post of Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education in the cabinet of Prime Minister Edward Lowassa and held this ministerial office until the end of Lowassa's term on February 8, 2008, when Shukuru Kawambwa succeeded him. He then became Minister for Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperatives on February 13, 2008 as the successor to Stephen Wasira in the cabinet of Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda and held this ministerial office until May 12, 2008. He then served as Minister for Science, Communication and Technology in the Pinda Cabinet between May 12, 2008 and November 2010.

Msolla has been married to Violet Jerrikias Ndamba since December 20, 1980.
