Stephen Masatu Wasira (* 1945 ) is a Tanzanian politician from the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) who has served as a minister several times.

Life

Wasira attended from 1956 to 1959 the Bariri Primary School , from 1960 to 1961 the Nyambitilwa Middle School , and in 1962 and 1963, the Kisangwa Middle School . He received his secondary education at the British Tutorial College between 1964 and 1968 , during which time he was an assistant for community development from 1965 to 1967 and then from 1967 to 1973 executive secretary of the then Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) in a district. In 1970 he was elected a member of the National Assembly for TANU and represented the constituency of Mwibara until 1975 . At the same time he served as junior minister in the Department of Agriculture and Livestock Development from 1973 to 1975 and then from 1975 to 1982 as regional commissioner for the Mara region , before he was envoy at the embassy in the USA between 1982 and 1986 . After the union of the TANU with the Afro-Shirazi Party (ASP) in 1977 he became a member of the newly formed party of the revolution CCM ( Chama Cha Mapinduzi ). During his stay in the USA, he began an undergraduate degree in economics and international relations at the American University in Washington, DC in 1982 , which he completed in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Economics & International Studies). At the same time, he began postgraduate studies in administrative sciences at American University in 1985 , which he completed in 1986 with a Master of Public Administration (MPA).

After his return from the United States, Wasira was Deputy Minister for Local Government, Cooperatives and Marketing from 1987 to 1989 and then Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development in the cabinet of Prime Minister Joseph Sinde Warioba between 1989 and 1990 . He then acted from 1990 to 1992 as regional commissioner for the Pwani region , the so-called coastal region of Tanzania. He completed another postgraduate course in applied economics at the American University in 1993 with a Master of Arts (MA Applied Economics). In 1995 he was for the CCM again a member of the National Assembly and represented there until his election in 1996 waiving the constituency Bunda before he Director of between 1996 and 2005 Managing Siza Cold Storage Co. Ltd. was. On October 30, 2005, he was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly, in which he again represented the Bunda constituency until June 18, 2015 .

After a government reshuffle, he succeeded Joseph Mungai from October 17, 2006 to February 8, 2008 in the Lowassa cabinet for the first time as Minister for Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperatives, whereupon Peter Msolla became his successor. He then served as Minister for Regional and Local Government between February 13 and May 12, 2008 in the office of Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda . He then replaced Peter Msolla as Minister for Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperatives on May 12, 2008 as part of a government reshuffle. Most recently he was Minister of State for Social Relations and Coordination from November 28, 2010 to November 5, 2015.
