Mizengo Kayanza Peter Pinda (born August 12, 1948 in Mpanda in the Rukwa region) is a Tanzanian politician ( Chama Cha Mapinduzi ). He was Prime Minister of his country from February 2008 to November 2015.

Life

Pinda studied at the University of Dar es Salaam until 1974 , after which he worked as a lawyer in the Ministry of Justice. From 1978 to 1982 Pinda worked as the security officer of the State House, the official residence of the Tanzanian President, and from 1982 to 1992 as its secretary. From 1996 to 2000 he was Secretary of the Cabinet, since 2000 Member of Parliament for the Mpanda East constituency . In addition, at the same time he was appointed Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office for Regional and Local Affairs, and on January 4, 2006, his position was raised to a full ministerial post. Pinda was appointed Prime Minister on February 8, 2008 by President Jakaya Kikwete to succeed Edward Lowassa, who resigned on allegations of corruption . The appointment was confirmed by Parliament on February 9, 2008 with only two votes against and one invalid vote with 279 votes and Pinda was sworn in on the same day at the Chamwino State House in Dodoma . He has been the head of government of Tanzania since February 9, 2008.

The cabinet presented on February 12, 2008 and headed by Pinda has become smaller than the previous cabinet with 26 versus 29 ministers and 21 versus 31 deputy ministers.

In November 2014, it became known that Pinda was involved in corrupt payments to energy companies and officials.
