Rashidi Kawawa

Rashidi Mfaume Kawawa (born May 27, 1926 in Matepwende , Songea District , Tanganyika (now Tanzania ), † December 31, 2009 in Muhimbili ) was the first Prime Minister of Tanzania.

Kawawa belonged to the Tanganyika African National Union party and was Prime Minister Tanganyika from January 22, 1962 to December 9, 1962. He was the successor to Julius Kambarage Nyerere , who led Tanganyika to independence and then became president. He was then Vice President from 1962 to 1964.

From February 17, 1972 to February 13, 1977 he was the first Prime Minister of Tanzania. Until 1980 he was the country's defense minister.
