Life

Schünemann grew up in Lüchtringer Weg 4 in Holzminden and learned to play the accordion from his father (machinist by profession) and mother at the age of six . Two years later, his mother bought from a Gypsy boy's from the neighborhood a black guitar beat (type after the guitar playing of Django Reinhardt ) for 20 DM from which he then private guitar lessons took. His parents moved to Stadtoldendorf in 1964 and Schünemann took accordion lessons with Tonnie de Graaf for another 3 years and founded a school beat band called “The three Bongos” and later “The happy Lions”. After leaving school, he began training as a lawyer and notary assistant . In 1969 the family band "Peter Schünemann - Combo" was founded, in which his father also played drums and his brother played guitar. Later the "Peter Schünemann - Showband" was founded. In 1971 he received 2nd place in a pop singer contest organized by the WDR at the Federal Garden Show in Cologne. After his apprenticeship training followed to substitute at Karstadt in Göttingen where his supervisor Hartwig Fischer was. He then worked in the Karstadt branches in Celle and Hamburg. He then worked for three years as a music dealer and organ teacher in Göttingen at the Hack Music House and studied 6 semesters of music education at the Göttingen Conservatory. In the 1980s he often played dance music with musicians from the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra, including concertmaster Wojtek Bolimowski, Peter Rorzycka and Constantin Catianis. During this time Schünemann also founded a private music school and a sales shop with musical instruments in Uslar - Bollensen .

In 1989, Schünemann started a solo career with folk songs from his homeland in the Weser Uplands and thus discovered a niche in the market. His most famous hit The old captain with the accordion , published in 1991 by the music publishers Sikorski Hamburg and Hildner MV, was produced by Bernd Dietrich (former music producer of Mathias Reim and GG Anderson) in collaboration with Polydor. Since then he has become known under the slogan "Der Junge von der Weser" and has appeared in several television and radio programs. At the beginning of the 1990s he founded his own record distribution, label and music publisher with Kapitän Records .

In his free time, Schünemann, like his brother, devoted himself very intensively and actively to the Japanese martial art Shōtōkan . Here he is the holder of the 3rd Dan and also works as a teacher and trainer.

Schünemann is married to his wife Marianne and has two children.
