Peter Schumacher (* 1864 in Aachen ; † after 1943 in Hanover ) was a German sculptor .

Works

At the beginning of the 20th century, Schumacher designed the figurative decoration of the facade of the middle school at Lindener Berge

Peter Schumacher designed the ornamental and figurative decoration of the late Gothic and early Renaissance facade in the transition to Art Nouveau for the middle school built between 1904 and 1905, today part of IGS Linden . The building is now a listed building .

A bronze figure of Schumacher was placed in front of the town hall in Bückeburg on October 5, 1907 . It was later interpreted as a herald and is said to have resemblance to St. Eustachius on Dürer's Paumgartner altar . The standard that the figure bears reads: “Only the best should rule”. The figure was given to the city by an emigrated son of the former mayor Gerbracht.

The main facade of the New Town Hall in Hanover, which was completed in 1913, was decorated with a picture frieze on the history of the city of Hanover . There are three reliefs by Schumacher. The first on the far left shows a girl from Hanover around 1150 at the grave of Bishop Bernward von Hildesheim . The one on the far right shows Duke Ernst the Confessor at the Lutheran Evening Meal in 1525. The fourth relief from the right shows the mayor Christian Ulrich Grupen in 1747 with the plan of the Aegidienneustadt .

Tomb of the Hübener family from 1914 in the Ohlsdorf cemetery

Schumacher's sandstone figure of the Gänseliesel in the spa gardens in Bad Pyrmont dates from the 1920s . He also made the figure of a peasant girl with distaff and wool from sandstone, which was offered in art dealers in 2018.

Schumacher designed two recumbent crocodiles for the lion bastion on the Maschsee in Hanover. Arno Breker's design, which provided for two lions, was preferred. Schumacher's crocodiles were later set up at Lindemannallee 19: The industrialist Georg Greiser had the sandstone figures made on his property in Dollbergen . The crocodiles were then sold from his estate to Erich Cordes, who moved them in front of the tenement house on Lindemannallee.
