Peter Anthony Taglianetti (* 15. August 1963 in Framingham , Massachusetts ) is a retired American ice hockey player , who in his active period 1981 to 1996, including for the Winnipeg Jets , Minnesota North Stars , Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League has played.

Career

Peter Taglianetti began his career as a hockey player at Providence College , for whose ice hockey team he was active from 1981 to 1985 in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . During this period he was selected in the third round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft as the 43rd player of the Winnipeg Jets , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League towards the end of the 1984/85 season . From 1985 to 1990 the defender was regularly used for the Jets in the NHL, but also played for their farm teams Sherbrooke Canadiens and Moncton Hawks in the American Hockey League . The 1990/91 season he began with the Minnesota North Stars in the NHL, but was given in December 1990 together with Larry Murphy in exchange for Chris Dahlquist and Jim Johnson to the Pittsburgh Penguins . With the Penguins, he immediately won the prestigious Stanley Cup . He was able to repeat this success with his team in the 1991/92 season .

In June 1992, Taglianetti was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL Expansion Draft . As early as March 1993, however, he was transferred from Tampa Bay in exchange for a third-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 1993 back to the Pittsburgh Penguins, with whom he stayed for another two years. In his final year in Pittsburgh, he also played in seven games for the Cleveland Lumberjacks from the International Hockey League . The American spent the 1995/96 season with the Providence Bruins in the AHL, before ending his career at the age of 33.
