Peter Weirauch

Peter Weirauch (born August 30, 1933 in Polsnitz , Waldenburg district , Lower Silesia Province ; † January 30, 2019 in Berlin ) was a German composer .

Career

Youth and Studies

Peter Weirauch began taking violin lessons at the age of ten. Five years later he took guitar lessons from Erich Bürger for the first time .

From 1955 to 1960 Weirauch studied music at the Municipal Conservatory in Berlin. His main fields of study were guitar, piano and composition. With a focus on guitar , he was taught by Erich Bürger, who was teaching there at the time. His teacher for piano and composition was Friedrich Metzler .

Freelance work

Towards the end of his studies, from 1958 to 1961, Peter Weirauch also worked as a jazz guitarist. Later, in 1962, he became self-employed and has been a freelance composer ever since.

From 1990 Peter Weirauch was a member of the German Composers' Association .

Create

In the years 1966 to 1982 Weirauch wrote various compositions and arrangements for various radio orchestras and music publishers, compositions for solo guitar, guitar and orchestra, church music and various songs (Heine cycle, Hölderlin cycle). As chamber music he wrote six string quartets, three woodwind quintets and three brass quintets, including for soloists from the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Komische Oper Berlin .

Festival participation

  • In 1993 Peter Weirauch took part in the international guitar festival in Lublin .
  • In 2005 he took part in the international Zymbal Festival in Beijing together with the soloist Katerina Zlatníková .

Awards

  • In 2009 Peter Weirauch was awarded the Herbert Baumann Composition Prize.
  • 2014 International Composition Competition of the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg: Award for the composition Schattenspiele for piano
