history

Jürgen Müller and Rainer Rubbert , two former members of the nationally known cabaret troupe CaDeWe (Cabaret des Westens), started the Berlin cabaret establishment in the 1980s in a tent on Mariannenplatz in Kreuzberg under the name Die Enterbten . In April 1988, the ensemble also moved into the former Dachluke youth disco at Mehringdamm 34. This office building, built by Daniel Ehrenfried in 1913, was the main store of the Jonass department store after the First World War and the Telefunken company headquarters from 1948 to 1952 .

The BKA tent often changed its location and was in the Kulturforum on Potsdamer Platz from 1991 to 1998 . The regular artists performing there included, for example, Tim Fischer , Sissi Perlinger and Helge Schneider , who wrote his Guten Tach Auf Wiedersehen! played while he lived in a trailer on neighboring Potsdamer Platz. In April 1998 the BKA tent was cleared and reopened in the summer on the Schloßplatz under the new name Luftschloß . The regular artists here included Josef Hader , Nina Hagen , Désirée Nick , Stermann & Grissemann , Ades Zabel and Tim Fischer. In the summer of 2004 the castle in the air moved to the Ostbahnhof , but the operators had to file for bankruptcy on October 18, 2004 .

In the BKA-Theater am Mehringdamm, the initial in-house productions decreased over time in favor of guest performances by artists such as Susanne Betancor , Georgette Dee and Michael Mittermeier . The Berlin duo Rosenstolz presented their first CD here in 1991, and artists such as Erwin Grosche or Die zufahren Schulkinder have repeatedly appeared on stage here. Regular artists who regularly present their latest productions in the BKA Theater include Ades Zabel , Bob Schneider and Biggy van Blond.

In January 2005, the Theaterexperten gGmbH was re-established as the operating company of the Theater am Mehringdamm, the BKA tent and castle in the air remained closed. In August 2013, the BKA-Theater on Mehringdamm celebrated its 25th anniversary.
