Peter von Siemens (born January 29, 1911 in Charlottenburg ; † May 23, 1986 in Munich ) was a German industrialist from the Siemens family . From 1971 to 1981 he was chairman of the supervisory board of Siemens AG and also worked as an anthroposophist and conductor.

Life

Peter von Siemens was born in Charlottenburg in 1911 as the son of the engineer and entrepreneur Werner Ferdinand von Siemens (1919–20 Chairman of the Management Board of Siemens & Halske AG) . He is the grandson of Wilhelm von Siemens and great-grandson of Werner von Siemens . He grew up in the Correns mansion, also known as the Siemensvilla, in Berlin-Lankwitz. The villa was known for its house concerts, in which family members actively participated.

After graduating from high school, he studied economics and political science at the universities of Freiburg , Munich , Cologne and Rostock and then received his doctorate . In 1934 he joined Siemens & Halske . In 1935 he married the pianist Maria Julia Lienau (1916 - 2008); he himself trained as a concert conductor and later occasionally conducted the Munich Philharmonic at private concerts and recordings. The couple had a son Peter C. von Siemens (* 1937), who represented the founding family on the Supervisory Board of Siemens AG from 1993 to 2008 and was previously a member of the Executive Board, as well as a daughter Katharina (* 1938), who joined forces with Fürst zu Hohenlohe -Öhringen is married.

In 1936, Peter von Siemens took on leading sales positions in the medical technology division of Siemens-Reiniger-Werke, with a focus on Brazil and Argentina. From that time on, he was in South America during the Second World War until 1948. From 1950 he worked in the central sales administration Siemens-Schuckert in Erlangen. In 1959 he was appointed to the management board of Siemens-Schuckert-Werke, and in 1963 to the supervisory board of Siemens AG. From 1971 to 1981 he was the successor to his uncle Ernst von Siemens , Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Siemens AG. Under his leadership, Siemens AG grew to become the fifth largest electronics company in the world.

His final resting place is in the family grave of the Siemens family in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .

Peter von Siemens was committed to nature conservation and land care , so he was a full member of the German Council for Land Care . He supported the WWF and the Bund Naturschutz , which awarded him the Bavarian Nature Conservation Prize in 1975 . He later held disputes with the chairman of the Bund Naturschutz, Hubert Weinzierl , about support for nuclear energy , which Siemens has always advocated to expand. From 1959 to 1960 he was a member of the Advisory Board of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation .
