Pyotr Chikhachyov (also Tchichatscheff or Tschihatscheff and Chikhachyov , Chikhachev (ef) , Russ. Пётр Александрович Чихачёв * August 16 . Jul / 28. August  1812 greg. In Gatchina ; † 13. Tschichachev traveled to the Altai , Asia Minor (a total of six times in the years 1847 to 1858), between 1877 and 1878 Spain , Algeria and Tunisia , where he particularly observed the geological , climatological and botanical conditions of the countries.

In 1843 he was admitted to the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina with the nickname JG Gmelin . Since 1861 he was a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences . In 1866 he became a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and in 1873 an honorary member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .

The Tschichachev ridge , a mountain range on the Russian-Mongolian border, was named after him. His younger brother was Plato Alexandrovich Tschichachev .
