The Jumbo 6500 is a multi-purpose ship from the Peters Scheepswerf in Kampen .

General

Eleven ships of this type were built, initially as the type "Jumbo 6500 1B" and later as the modified type "Jumbo 6500 1A". The two types differ in terms of the ice class and are equipped with different engine models.

Canada Feeder Lines in Groningen was the customer for nine of the ships, and two of the ships went to Boomsma Shipping in Sneek . The hulls of the ships for Boomsma Shipping were built by Port Weller Dry Docks in St. Catharines , Canada , and completed and equipped at the Peters shipyard. In addition, Port Weller Dry Docks was commissioned to build two and later three more units of the type for the British shipping company Carisbrooke Shipping. However, the order was later canceled.

The ships built for Canada Feeder Lines went to Vertom Scheepvaart- en Handelmaatschappij in Rotterdam between 2012 and 2019 .

Experience with this type of ship has been incorporated into the “ Sole 10000 ” type of ship built by Scheepswerf Peters from 2010 onwards .

description

The ships are propelled by a diesel engine that acts on a controllable pitch propeller via a reduction gear . The ships reach a speed of around 10.5  knots .

The ships of the type Jumbo 6500 1B with a four-stroke - six-cylinder diesel engine is the manufacturer Wärtsilä : with 2,040 (type 6L26)  kW power equipped. The Jumbo 6500 1A ships are powered by a four-stroke, six-cylinder diesel engine from the manufacturer Caterpillar (type: MaK 6M25) with an output of 1,980 kW. The ships are equipped with a bow thruster with 280 kW power.

A shaft generator with an output of 348 kW (435  kVA apparent power ) is available for power generation, which is driven by the main engine via an output shaft . There are also two diesel generator sets with an output of 140 kW (175 kVA apparent power) as well as an emergency and harbor generator.

The deck superstructures are located in the rear of the ships. There are nine cabins on board for the crew members . The ships have two box-shaped holds . Room 1 is 18.7 meters long, 11.2 meters wide and 9.0 meters high, room 2 is 59.9 meters long, 11.2 meters wide and 9.0 meters high. The capacity of room 1 is 1,885 m³, that of room 2 6,038 m³. The rooms are closed with three or ten pontoon hatch covers. The hatch covers can be moved using a hatch cart. The ships built for Canada Feeder Lines are equipped with a bulkhead in room 2 , the ships built for Boomsma Shipping with three bulkheads. The bulkheads can be erected in eight positions. The tank top can be loaded with 15 t / m², the hatch cover with 1.75 t / m².

The ships are prepared for the transport of containers . The container capacity is 256  TEU . 144 TEU (or 60 FEU + 24 TEU) can be loaded in space and 112 TEU (or 52 FEU + 8 TEU) on deck.

The hull of the ships is reinforced with ice . The ships of the type Jumbo 6500 1B are classified with ice class 1B, the ships of the type Jumbo 6500 1A with ice class 1A.
