Petr Buzek (born April 26, 1977 in Jihlava , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who played for the Dallas Stars , Atlanta Thrashers and Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League from 1995 to 2006 .
Career
Petr Buzek began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with HC Dukla Jihlava , for whose professional team he was active in the Czech extra league from 1993 to 1995 . Then the defender was selected in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft in the third round as a total of 63 players by the Dallas Stars . Due to the consequences of a serious car accident in which he broke both legs and his nose, the junior international was unable to play a single game during the 1995/96 season. From 1996 to 1999 the Czech played almost exclusively for the Dallas farm team from the International Hockey League , the Michigan K-Wings . In the 1997/98 season stood in two games for the stars in the National Hockey League on the ice.
On June 25, 1999, Buzek was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the NHL Expansion Draft . For the team from the US state of Georgia , he scored in his first full season in the NHL in the 1999/2000 season in a total of 63 games five goals and 14 templates. Because of his achievements, he was nominated for the NHL All-Star Game in the same year . Due to a neck injury at the beginning of the 2000/01 season in a game against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , the left-shot was again almost an entire season and was only able to play five games for the Thrashers. On December 18, 2001 Buzek was given to the Calgary Flames along with a six- round suffrage for the 2004 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Jeff Cowan and the rights to Kurtis Foster . After two years of regular appearances with the Canadians, he was loaned to HC Sparta Prague from his Czech homeland for the 2003/04 season, for which the injury-prone world champion from 2000 only played five games in the whole year in the Extraliga.
In the 2004/05 season, Buzek played for HC Dukla Jihlava and its league rivals HC Litvínov in the Czech extra league , before, following the 2005/06 season, in which he was under contract with HC Slovan Bratislava in the Slovakian extra league , ended his active career at the age of only 29.
