Petra Mlejnková (born September 26, 1988 ) is a Czech grass skier . She is a member of the Czech national grass ski team, has won a world cup race so far and was junior world champion in slalom and giant slalom in 2008 .

Career

Mlejnková started grass skiing in 1999, and in June 2003 she took part in her first FIS race . Her first major event was the Junior World Championship in Goldingen in July 2003, but she could not yet keep up with the more experienced runners. She was second to last in sixth place in the Super-G and last in sixth place in the combination and seventh in slalom. Her only World Cup points in the 2003 season she won in the slalom of Nové Město na Moravě , where she finished eleventh and penultimate place. In the 2004 season, the Czech was among the top ten in two World Cup races and thus came twelfth in the overall ranking. At the Junior World Championships in Rettenbach , she was sixth in the Super-G and eighth in the giant slalom.

With her first and so far only World Cup victory in the combination of Forni di Sopra on July 17, 2005 and another four top 5 placements, Mlejnková secured fourth place overall in the 2005 season . At the Junior World Championships in Nové Město na Moravě , she won two bronze medals in giant slalom and super-G, in slalom and in the combination, she was sixth each. Mlejnková also won a medal at her first world championship in the general class. In Dizin , Iran , she came third in the slalom behind the Swiss Nadja Vogel and the German Anna-Lena Büdenbender . In the Super-G she finished seventh, which brought her to fourth place in the combination and she finished the giant slalom in fifth position.

In the 2006 World Cup season, Mlejnková achieved third place overall with four podium places and thus her best result in the overall World Cup so far. At the Junior World Championships 2006 in Horní Lhota u Ostravy she was second in the Super-G and third in the giant slalom. She achieved five podium places in the 2007 World Cup season , but in the overall standings she dropped two places to fifth. As in the previous two years, the Czech won two medals at the 2007 Junior World Championships . She came third in the Super G and Super Combined and sixth in the giant slalom. At the 2007 World Championships in Olešnice v Orlických horách she reached fifth place in the slalom and giant slalom as well as tenth in the super combined and eleventh in the super G.

Mlejnková achieved another five World Cup podiums in the 2008 season . As in the previous year, she finished fifth overall. The then 19-year-old celebrated great successes at the 2008 Junior World Championship in Rieden . In the slalom and in the giant slalom she won the gold medal in front of the Austrian Jacqueline Gerlach and in the Super-G she came second behind Gerlach. However, she couldn't finish the super combination. In the 2009 World Cup season , Mlejnková showed less good performances than in previous years and for the first time since 2004 did not finish on the podium in any race. Her best results were two fifth places in the giant slalom and in the super combination of Forni di Sopra, which is why she fell back to eighth place in the overall World Cup. At the 2009 World Championships in Rettenbach, she was sixth in the super combined and seventh in slalom, giant slalom and super-G.

At the beginning of the 2010 World Cup season , the Czech was back on the podium with third place in the giant slalom in Čenkovice . After that, however, she only took part again in the final races in Italy, where she achieved another podium finish with second place in the Sestriere slalom . She finished the overall World Cup in ninth position. In 2011 Mlejnková did not take part in any international competitions, but only in races of the Czech Cup. In 2012 she did not start in the Czech Cup either.
