Nadja Vogel (born August 7, 1990 ) is a Swiss ski racer and former grass skier . As a member of the Swiss national grass ski team, she took part in international grass ski competitions from 2005 to 2007. In these three years she won three World Cup and four FIS races and once achieved third place in the overall World Cup. She won six gold and two bronze medals in only two world championships , making her one of the most successful grass skiers. She also became an eight-time junior world champion. After the 2007 World Championships , where she won all four races, Vogel ended her grass ski career and has since started exclusively in alpine ski races. In the 2012/13 season she was part of the Swiss-Ski B team .

Career

Grass ski

Vogel contested her first FIS grass skiing race in Urnäsch at the end of May 2005 . She immediately came second in giant slalom and super-G and fourth in slalom. Two weeks later she finished on the podium in all three competitions at the FIS races in Traisen . In her first World Cup race , the slalom of L'Aquila on June 18, 2005, the then only 14-year-old Swiss woman achieved second place behind the Austrian record winner Ingrid Hirschhofer . The next day, however, she did not finish in the second slalom. In the following week she won two FIS races in Chiomonte and at the beginning of July she was among the top three in both FIS races in Marbachegg . At the next World Cup races on July 16 and 17 in Forni di Sopra , the young Swiss woman celebrated her first World Cup victory in the first of the two Super-Gs. In the second Super-G she was only tenth and in the giant slalom she finished fifth. In August she made it onto the podium three times in the FIS races in Branná . With these successes, she reached third place in the overall World Cup in the 2005 season behind Ingrid Hirschhofer and the Italian Ilaria Sommavilla . At the Junior World Championships in July 2005, Vogel won two gold medals in giant slalom and super-G as well as two silver medals in slalom and combined. She also won gold twice at the 2005 World Cup , which was held in Dizin , Iran in September . The only 15-year-old Vogel won the slalom and the combined and was third in the giant slalom and the Super-G.

Vogel started the 2006 season in June with the FIS races in Traisen. She won the slalom, came second in the Super-G and seventh in the giant slalom. She contested her next races at the Junior World Championship in 2006 in Horní Lhota u Ostravy , Czech Republic , where she won three gold medals in slalom, super-G and combined, and silver in giant slalom. A week later she achieved a victory and two more podium places in the FIS races in Urnäsch and Marbachegg. Vogel's first World Cup race in the 2006 season was the slalom from Sattel on August 26th, which she won by a clear margin. At the next World Cup races in Forni di Sopra in early September, she was second in the giant slalom and second in the second Super-G and fifth in the first Super-G. In the overall World Cup, however, the Swiss fell back to tenth place.

In the 2007 season , Vogel only took part in the World Cup races in Switzerland. In Marbachegg she was second in the giant slalom and second in the super-G and in saddle, she won the second slalom. With these three results she finished eighth in the overall World Cup, and did not take part in FIS races this year. The Swiss woman proved her strength above all at the major events of the season. At the Junior World Championship in 2007 in Welschnofen , as in the previous year, she won three gold medals in slalom, super-G and super-combined. However, she did not finish in the giant slalom. The greatest success of her career she celebrated a month later at the 2007 World Cup in Olešnice v Orlických horách . As the third runner after Ingrid Hirschhofer (1993) and Paola Bazzi (1997 and 1999) Nadja Vogel was able to win all competitions of a world championship. This triumph marks the end of her career in grass skiing so far, in 2008 and 2009 she did not take part in any races.

Alpine skiing

Vogel has been taking part in FIS alpine skiing races since December 2005, in which she was among the top ten for the first time in March 2006. Since January 5, 2007 she has also started in the European Cup . She took her first points two weeks later when she finished 16th in the downhill from St. Moritz . In February of the same year she took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2007 in Jaca , where she was ninth in giant slalom and 17th in slalom. At the Junior World Championships in March, her best result was 22nd place in the Super-G and on April 7, 2007 she achieved her first victory in an FIS race in the slalom of the Liechtenstein National Championships.

In the 2007/08 season, Vogel finished only once among the top 30s in the European Cup. In FIS races, she achieved three victories and at the Swiss Junior Championships she came second in the downhill. At the Junior World Championships in Formigal in 2008 , she finished 15th in the downhill before she fell in slalom training, suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and had to end the season. In the winter of 2008/09 she was once again among the fastest 30 in the European Cup, and in FIS races she achieved one victory and another four podium places. At the Junior World Championships 2009 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , she finished 14th in the downhill, 15th in the Super-G and 16th in the giant slalom. At the Swiss Championships in 2009 she reached fourth place in both slalom and downhill.

At the European Indoor Championships on November 7th, 2009, Vogel achieved ninth place as the best Swiss woman. A week later, she made her World Cup debut in Levi's slalom . As the 60th of the first run, however, she clearly missed the qualification for the second run and this winter this was her only World Cup appearance. Her best European Cup result in the 2009/10 season was a 14th place in the super combined from Kvitfjell on December 5, 2009. At the 2010 Junior World Championships in the Mont Blanc region , she was fourth in the combined ranking and eighth in the giant slalom.

On November 27, 2010, Vogel started the giant slalom in Aspen for the second time in the World Cup, but was canceled in the first round. A few days later she reached third place in the second Nor-Am-Cup giant slalom at the same location. A month later, she achieved two more podium places in the Nor-Am giant slalom of Sunday River , with which she finished fourth in the giant slalom ranking in the 2010/11 season . In the European Cup she achieved her best result to date with 13th place in the Gressoney slalom on December 10, 2010 . In February 2011 she suffered another cruciate ligament rupture, which ended this season prematurely for her.

In the 2011/12 season, Vogel was used for the first time in several World Cup races, but could not qualify for the second round in any race. In the 2011/12 European Cup, she finished in the top 20 four times.
