Petrus Calaminus, (also Röhrer, Röhrig, Rörich ; * 1556 in Neurode , Grafschaft Glatz , † November 25, 1598 in Heidelberg ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Calaminus studied at the University of Heidelberg with Zacharias Ursinus . After completing his studies in 1578, he returned to his homeland. Then he became the educator of the children of the evangelical bishop Andreas Dudith in Breslau . In 1580 he took up a position as headmaster of the school in his place of birth. Three years later he was sent to Stoltz in the Duchy of Münsterberg as a priest appointed.

When the Gnesiolutherans were expelled from their offices in the Electorate of Saxony under Christian I of Saxony , Calaminus received the position of Andreas Jodocus († 1600) on April 15, 1590 . This was the third professorship for theology in Wittenberg , which was connected with a preaching position in the Wittenberg Castle Church . That is why he obtained a licentiate in theology in Wittenberg on September 18, 1590 .

After the death of Elector Christian I of Saxony, the administrator Friedrich Wilhelm I of Saxony-Weimar took over the affairs of state in Electoral Saxony on behalf of Christian II, who was still underage , and again campaigned for the Gnesiolutherans to return to theological offices.

For this reason, Calaminus was dismissed as a representative of the Philippists from the Wittenberg university service in January 1592 (see Albert Voit ). Thereupon he went to the Philippist-friendly Anhalt to Zerbst , where he probably worked at the Francisceum grammar school . From there he went to Heidelberg , where he again held a professorship in theology until his death.
