Catholic parish church hl. Nicholas in Auersthal

The Roman Catholic parish church of Auersthal is located in the municipality of Auersthal in the Gänserndorf district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to St. Nicholas and belongs to the Deanery Gänserndorf in the vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is a listed building .

Location description

The church is a large building that can be seen from afar. It stands a little higher in the center of Auersthal.

history

The vicariate was proclaimed before 1328. The Gothic choir was built in the 14th century. The nave was rebuilt between 1735 and 1741. In 1784 the church was elevated to a parish church. In 1859 the church was rebuilt by Josef Wenz and also received additions.

There is a high gable roof over the mighty baroque nave . The high west facade is structured by flat pilasters . The figures of St. Catherine and the Blessed Elisabeth von Reuthe stand in niches . There is a pointed gable above the surrounding cornice . In the gable is a niche with a figure of Immaculata . A small vestibule from 1859 with a pointed gable is built in front of the west facade. The north and south sides of the nave are divided by flat pilasters and high arched windows. There is an ox-eye window on the nave wall above the much lower choir . The Gothic choir from the 14th century is structured by strong buttresses and high pointed arch windows. Above the eastern choir yoke, directly adjoining the nave, is a compact church tower with pointed arched sound windows . The tower dates from 1859, the pyramid spire is more recent. The choir is flanked by additions to the sacristy . The northern extension from the 14th century is Gothic and has pointed arch windows and a pointed arch portal. There is also a small stair tower against the nave.

Church interior

The high nave has three bays with barrel vaults with stitch caps . This rests on pillars with double pilasters . In between are double straps . The three-part organ loft rests on pillars and is vaulted under a square . Behind the pointed triumphal arch is the drawn-in, two-bay choir, which is vaulted with a groin. The choir closes at the 5/8 end. The ribbed vault in the choir has decorative keystones . A reinforcing arch is inserted between the two choir bays as a support for the church tower. On the north wall is a small Gothic sacrament niche . In the north the old Gothic sacristy adjoins the choir. The room is two-bay and vaulted with cross ribs with keystones. The southern sacristy from 1859 is vaulted with ribs and a keystone. Above it is the oratorio . The stained glass windows are from the second half of the 19th century.

Furnishing

The classical altars were built at the end of the 18th century. The high altar is a simple columned retable . The altarpiece shows Saint Nicholas and was painted by Franz Schams in 1859. The side figures represent St. Anthony and St. John Nepomuk . In the excerpt , the Saints Peter and Paul are shown. The side altars are simply designed niche altars. On the left altar is a statue of St. Barbara , on the right a figure of St. Leopold . The baroque pulpit dates from the middle of the 18th century. Symbols of theological virtues are depicted on the basket . There is a figure of Salvator on the cover . The Stations of the Cross were painted in the middle of the 19th century. The four round pictures with the four evangelists as well as the Pietà picture come from Franz Schams from the year 1860. The neo-Gothic baptismal font in the southern sacristy comes from the year 1854.
