The parish church Feistritz an der Gail stands a little higher in the municipality Feistritz an der Gail in the Villach-Land district in Carinthia . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to the patronage of Martin von Tours , belongs to the Hermagor / Šmohor dean's office in the Gurk-Klagenfurt diocese . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

A capella S. Martini was incorporated into the Mosach ( Moggio Udinese ) monastery in Friuli by the Patriarch of Aquileja before 1182 . The chapel / church initially stood down in the village, was damaged in a flood and then rebuilt on top of a rock where a Scharfenstein castle supposedly stood in front of it. A parish has existed since 1424.

The current church building, a stately late Gothic complex, was built in the first half of the 15th century. In 1963 the neo-Gothic vestibule in the west was replaced by a new vestibule. 1972 and 1994 were restorations, in 1999 the south chapel was restored.

architecture

The mighty west tower , a former defense tower , was renewed in the upper area in 1885 after a fire, the bell storey with twin windows is framed with cornices , the upper storey is octagonal, the previous baroque bell spire was replaced by a pointed spire with eight steep gables. In 1994 the tower was re-covered. To the west in front of the tower is a new, closed vestibule. The west door has a rich profiled, funnel-shaped ogival portal with a cross flower decorated Kielbogenbekrönung, the portal transmits laterally over a foliage console and a three-member console stores and transmits, via the apex, a buckler the master Andrae Kanich with the entry 1520th

The nave has single stepped buttresses to the north , the two end pillars are placed across the corner. To the north and south are three pointed arch windows , two of which are two-part lancet windows with tracery and newly glazed, and one is half walled up and not divided.

The retracted choir has double-stepped buttresses and at the end has four two-part lancet windows with tracery and newly glazed.

The interior of the church shows a three-bay nave with a ribbed vault on semicircular templates. The narrower entrance yoke to the west under the tower is probably open to the nave with a gallery over two floors. To the south in the eastern yoke is a baroque sacristy portal , in the central yoke is a round-arched chamfered opening into the chapel . The chapel is rectangular and has a simple ribbed vault. The nave is shifted slightly to the north compared to the choir and opened to the choir with a pointed, chamfered triumphal arch . The retracted one-bay choir has a five-eighth end and a star rib vault on semicircular templates and round keystones.
