The parish church of Klagenfurt-Wölfnitz is located in the 14th district of Wölfnitz in the municipality of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee in Carinthia . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to St. John the Baptist , belongs to the Deanery of Klagenfurt-Stadt in the diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt .

history

Especially since Tultschnig is a small village, a building site was acquired with Pastor Josef Komar in 1967 with the welfare of Bishop Joseph Köstner in the up-and-coming Wölfnitz and in 1978 a parish council was elected for the first time. The Seltenheim branch church standing on a hill was too small for Wölfnitz and difficult to reach in winter. With the foundation stone of the church in Wölfnitz 1985 by Bishop Egon Kapellari was the same church and the church in Tultschnig to Filialkirche Tultschnig downgraded, with 1985 Franz Berger was pastor. The church was built from 1985 to 1987 according to the plans of the architect Gernot Kulterer . The purchase of three bells in 1994 was combined with financial support for the construction of a church with a parish center in Vikaspuri near New Delhi , which was consecrated on February 21, 1993.

architecture

The large single-nave hall church with a high semicircular apse has a detached two-storey tower with a retracted pointed spire in the northwest. The weekday chapel is at the main entrance. The interior of the church has an open roof.

On the southern outer wall there is a figure of St. Christopher , painted or patinated on copper sheet. This design comes from Johanes Zechner .

Furnishing

The altar , ambo , tabernacle column and baptismal font are made of rubber marble from the Drau valley . The tabernacle , the tabernacle tower and the lid of the baptismal font are made of gold-plated or nickel-plated metal. The seating is made of beech or spruce , as is the visible roof structure. Cotto bricks were laid on the floor.

A blue ribbon of water runs through the baptistery, which is depicted above the image of Zacharias. A “baptismal font” is painted on the wall behind the baptismal font. In the course of time, the names of those who receive the sacrament of baptism in this church will be written on it. The moon in the baptismal window represents the restless, changeable and ephemeral of human life; the baptismal window was made from hand-made glass from Schlierbach (Upper Austria) .

The crosses of the apostles on the side walls remind of those places where the church was anointed at the consecration .

In the upper area of the triumphal arch, the figures of the lamb and the dove are attached, painted in egg tempera or made of industrial glass. On the left wall of the triumphal arch Zechner created the ten panels depicting the life of St. John the Baptist. These are wooden panels that are covered with linen and painted with egg tempera. The panels show the following scenes:

  1. John the Baptist: Standing in the Jordan , he points to Christ , the " Lamb of God ".
  2. Including the water of baptism .
  3. In the middle of the base, Zacharias gave his son a name.
  4. To the left of this is the reference to the path that is to be straightened out in the sermon of John.
  5. The writing "God", which is the root of the message of John.
  6. Above that are the tools that symbolically help to shape repentance in the spirit of John.
  7. In the upper left corner the head of the Baptist, to whom the hand of Herodias extends.
  8. To the right of it the meeting of Mary with Elisabeth .
  9. This is followed by the color symbol of the Johannine penance sermon.
  10. The center is a colored symbol of God.

The three bells with the mood of the Gloria motif F1, G1 and B1 were cast by the Grassmayr bell foundry in 1994. They were consecrated by Prelate Karl-Heinz Frankl .
