Nave towards the choir (2011)

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Katharina is located in the main town of Oberlängenfeld in the Austrian municipality of Längenfeld in the Ötztal in Tyrol . The church, which is under the patronage of St. Catherine , belongs to the Silz deanery in the Innsbruck diocese . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

The church was mentioned in a document in 1303 and consecrated in 1352. The elongated church building in the late Gothic core was rebuilt in 1518, probably by Jakob von Tarrenz . The extension and baroque style took place in 1690.

architecture

The church tower on the north side of the choir was divided into three floors with an architectural painting in 1820 and has two late Gothic sound windows with tracery on each side on the bell floor . She wears a gable-pointed helmet and in each of the gables there is a two-lane tracery window, above keel- arched blind niches with coats of arms. There are sacristy additions on both sides of the tower.

The late Gothic nave was extended by two bays to seven bays in 1690 , with the buttresses being given a Baroque style. The year 1518 and the trade mark LOE were inscribed on the south-eastern late Gothic buttress. On the south side of the nave in the sixth yoke there is a light niche with the handicraft symbols pliers and horseshoes . In the fifth yoke is a walled up late Gothic portal, where the garments were formed with crossed round bars. The late Gothic ogival portal of the west facade was built in 1518 and has a garment with pear sticks and branch stick , crossed at the top. In 1690 the portal was covered with a stuccoed aedicular frame and above it was provided with a circular window and a blind niche. In the west facade there is a fresco with the Saints Ursula, Katharina and Barbara by Josef Anton Puellacher from the end of the 18th century. The interior of the nave is structured with baroque pillars with cornices. A remnant of a late Gothic round service is still preserved at the pulpit pillar . The two-bay choir, slightly shifted from the axis, has a 3/8 end and is connected to the nave with a high, round-arched triumphal arch. The choir and the nave are equipped with a round barrel vault with pointed arched stitch caps . The three-axis, two-bay west gallery has a groin vault and has stucco ribbons on the ridges from 1690. The vault paintings in the nave and choir were made by Josef Arnold in 1852 and depict medallions, angels, the four continents in veneration of the Eucharist , a dispute of the saints Catherine, the beheading of Saint Catherine and the Ascension of Saint Catherine.

Furnishing

The high altar dates from 1800. The altarpiece by Anton Franz Altmutter shows the glory of St. Catherine. The left altar panel depicts the Assumption of Mary by the painter Johann Wörle and dates from 1767. The right altar panel shows St. Johann Nepomuk by Josef Arnold from 1855. The figures of St. Oswald, St. Florian and two female saints and the Holy Trinity in the extract come from the sculptor Franz Auer in the mid-19th century. The apostle altar in the nave was made by the carpenter Kassian Götsch in 1680 and consists of three reredos . The figures were carved by Josef Witwer and the altarpiece Madonna between Peter and Paul is by the painter Josef Thenig. The pulpit with a dense ornamental carving comes from the sculptor Jakob Auer from the end of the 17th century and shows the figures of the four evangelists on the pulpit. There is a figure of St. John Nepomuk by the sculptor Josef Anton Renn from 1762 and the station pictures created by the painter Josef Gabl around 1852.

The organ was made by Franz Reinisch II in 1904.

Bells

The ringing of the parish church of Längenfeld includes six bells , five of which were cast in the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck and one bell by the Pfundner bell foundry in Vienna . The big bell had to be re-cast in 2005 due to a crack in the old bell from 1949.

The mood of the bells is:

des 1 es 1 f 1 as 1 b 1 des 2

Bell 1 was cast in 2005 by the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck.

Bell 2 was cast by the Pfundner bell foundry in Vienna in 1961.

Bells 3 to 5 were cast in 1949 by the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck.

Bell 6 was cast by the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck in 1921.

Up until 2010, the bells of the Längenfeld parish church were rung with a very high angle (approx. 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.) and it was one of the most beautiful high-swing bells in Tyrol. The ringing angle was later reduced and so the bells ring until around 8 a.m. today.

The full bell can only be heard on high holidays.
